Signs of a Downturn
After the financial crash of 2008 I embarked on a number of trips around the UK to photograph the impact it was having.
The changes weren’t immediately evident, people and businesses were clearly struggling, but it wasn’t visually noticeable at every turn. Maybe quantitative easing created the soft landing intended, but there were changes, you had to look a little harder to find them.
Here we see among others, a foreclosed Woolworths store, one of the early high street casualties, ships moored in the River Fal waiting for cargo, and a row of empty billboards, all signs the economy wasn't healthy at this time.
