God and Oil
Speakers' Corner is the spiritual home of the British democratic tradition for soapbox oratory. It’s located on the corner of Park Lane and Cumberland Gate in Hyde Park. Every Sunday since the passing of the 1872 right of free assembly in Royal Parks and Gardens Act people have gathered to listen or heckle to speeches about everything and anything. The likes of Karl Marx, Lenin, William Morris and George Orwell have spoken here. Today the speakers are less high profile, the speeches less coherent, but the passion for debate is undeniable.
